The Senate has confirmed the Presidential nominee Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche for appointment, as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.(NCS).
His confirmation was sequel to the consideration and adoption of report of Committee on Interior presented by its chairman senator Addams Oshimohle during plenary this Tuesday, in Abuja
Presenting the report, Senator Oshiomhole explained that the committee, while conducting the screening exercise interrogated the credentials and capacity of the nominee to be appointed as Controller-General of NCS.
He further said that the committee found the nominee as one with an impeccable character full of exposure, experience, intellectual energy drive and worthy of the appointment.
He said the nominee had been involved in several command positions and had benefited from training and re-training as an officer of the NCS .
Oshomole said there was no petition against the nominee, saying that he displayed a great deal of intellect at screening exercise, urging the senate to approved the appointment of the nominee.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio after a voice vote approval, congratulated Nwakuche , expressing hope that his confirmation would spur him to further give his best to the service of the nation.
He, however, commended the committee for screening the nominee, saying that his confirmation was coming at difficult era of jail breaks, expressing hope that the issues would come to an end soonest.
In a related development, the senate also confirmed Prof Melvin Damian Ayogi for appointment as members of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN.
His confirmation was as a result of a report being presented by the Chairman senate committee on Banking Insurance and other Financial Institutions, senator Abiru Mukhail Adetokunbo representing Lagos Central.
Presenting the report Senator Abiru represented by senator Osita Izunaso said the.nominee has fulfilled all the committee’s requirements for confirmation and is suitable for the job
He, therefore, explained that the committee recommended his confirmation by the senate and he was eventually confirmed.
The senate finally considered the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institution and Tetfund headed by senator Muntari Dandutse and presented by senator Abba Moro on the establishment of Federal University of medicine and medical sciences Egbe kogi state and passed to third reading.
The senate passed to second reading a Bill for an act to establish the Federal University of Science and Technology Epe Lagos state
The bill was sponsored by the leader of the senate senator Bamidele Michael Opeyemi representing Ekiti Central which says the bill Is to make a.comprehensive provisions for its due management and administration and for other related matters.
