The National President of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Nigeria, Haruna Danjuma, says the death of retired workers while awaiting the settlement of their accumulated arrears is a great concern to the families of these senior citizens.

Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, in reaction to reports that one hundred and eight retirees of the New Nigerian Newspaper recently died, stated that many others also lost their lives due to prolonged illness without proper medical care.

The PTA President stressed the need for relevant agencies particularly PTAD and PENCOM to expedite action towards payment of the arrears to alleviate sufferings of their families.

Alhaji Haruna Danjuma was dismayed by the alleged delay in paying such benefits despite presidential intervention through the disbursement of seven hundred and fifty-eight billion naira for the exercise, which he emphasized should be monitored by anti-corruption agencies to prevent abuse.

He also called on state government yet to implement payment of the new minimum wage to do so as motivation for improved productivity in service.
