The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has reiterated it’s commitment to maintaining federal roads and improving infrastructure across the country.

Federal Road Maintenance Engineer, Kabiru Iliyasu Dan-Milki, disclosed this while receiving the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kaduna Chapels at his office in Kaduna.

Engineer Dan-Mulki emphasized FERMA’s core responsibility of ensuring federal roads remain motorable to enhance smooth movement around the corridor and the country in general .

He highlighted the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders, particularly the media, to raise public awareness of the agency’s activities and its critical role in national development.

He further emphasised the need for public sensitization on the adverse effects of road misuse, including indiscriminate waste disposal and unauthorized parking on road shoulders, which contribute to road traffic crashes.

Reaffirming FERMA’s openness to partnerships, Engineer Dan-Mulki assured the NUJ representatives of his agency’s willingness to work closely with the media to disseminate factual information on their operations.

He commended the NUJ for recognizing FERMA’s efforts and placing confidence in its mandate.

In their remarks, NUJ FRCN Kaduna Chapel Chairman, Comrade Umar Sarkin Fada, and his counterpart of NTA Kaduna Chapel’s Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, emphasized the need for collaboration in taking the FERMA’s initiatives to greater heights.

They explained that the visit aimed to strengthen cooperation in publicizing the agency’s activities and encouraging citizens to play their part by preserving public infrastructure for sustainable development.

The NUJ leaders also expressed concerns over the poor condition of some federal roads and the premises of key federal establishments that included FRCN and NTA Kaduna.

They thereby urged FERMA to address these issues as part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

They commended FERMA for its dedication to road maintenance and assured the agency of the media’s continued support in informing Nigerians about it’s efforts to enhance road infrastructure nationwide.
