Jigawa State Government has urged the leadership of the Northwest Development Commission to uphold integrity and accountability to gain the support of governors in the region.

Governor Umar Namadi made this call while receiving the commission’s leaders, led by its chairman, at the Government House in Dutse.

He emphasized that, as the largest development commission in the country, the Northwest Commission should not be plagued by challenges.

Malam Umar Namadi advised the commission to learn from the experiences of other development commissions, given that it is a newly established body with a similar mandate.

“We have an obligation to collaborate and support the commission. Rest assured, you have a strong partner here, and we will work together,” Namadi assured.

He also urged the commission to remain focused, committed, and aligned with the priorities of the region’s governors to ensure success.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Lawal Sama’ila Yakawada said they were at the government house for formal introduction and to solicit support and encouragement of the government.

According to him, the commission was established with the consent of governors in the zone, so it has become necessary to seek for their support.

“Jigawa is an agrarian and industrious state, so we found it worthy to come here first after visiting the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum to seek support,” Samaila said.

Alhaji Sama’ila Yakawada said that the commission has already received insights on areas of collaboration with Jigawa state for economic and social development.

He described the Nortwest development commission as the largest commission amongst others in other roles with seven states, noting that there are a lot of challenges.

Some of the challenges he highlighted were, out of school issues, drug abuse and addiction in addition to other security and social vices.

The Chairman, commended Governor Umar Namadi, for his efforts in fighting many societal menace, even before assumed office as a governor of Jigawa state, as mentioned in the records.

“With Jigawa’s strong manpower due to its position in terms of western civilization, it is a place to learn and collaborate because its citizens made a remarkable presence even at the Federal level,”
