The Senator representing Katsina South Senatorial District, Alhaji Muntari Dandutse, says the Federal University of Health Sciences, Funtua, will commence academic activities this year.
Briefing Newsmen in Katsina, the lawmaker said the project when completed will be the first university in Funtua zone which is the only Senatorial zone in Katsina State that has no federal or state university.
He noted that since the institution will serve states of the Northwest zone, its siting in Funtua was strategic, as the town is located at the junction between the seven states in the zone.
He disclosed that over N3 billion had been allocated for the construction of the university, with an additional N5.7 billion included in the 2025 budget and N5 billion secured from TETFUND.
“This university will significantly enhance medical education in Katsina and the Northwest region,” he said.
Dandutse commended the Katsina State governor, Malam Dikko Radda, for his passion to ensure the early take-off of the institution.
He said the state government had donated a secondary school to serve as the take-off site of the university and has contributed resources to rehabilitate and construct new infrastructure at the institution.
Sen. Dandutse who is also the Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) said the agency will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that all infrastructural and academic requirements are met to facilitate the smooth take-off of the university.
