The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril Maliya, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the education sector by providing necessary assistance to students and institutions to enhance effective teaching and learning.
Speaking at the 6th matriculation ceremony of the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS), Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Senator Barau Jibril made this assurance through his Chief of Staff, Dr. Mohammad Bin Abdallah.
He further pledged to establish additional study centers for the college in Kano, noting that each local government area in the Kano North Senatorial Zone already has one.
Similarly, he highlighted his efforts in facilitating the upgrade of Federal Polytechnic Kabo to a Federal University of Technology.
Senator Jibrin further explained that he sponsored 1,000 students to study at FUDMA, 70 students in India, and 300 students for postgraduate degrees in various higher institutions across the country.
He added that 500 solar streetlights were also provided to Federal University Dutsin-Ma, along with a student bus.
Senator Jibiril emphasized that social vices can be curtailed through education and urged the matriculating students to remain committed to their studies and strive to meet global challenges in both learning and character.
In his remark, the Minister of housing and urban development Architect Musa Dangiwa,represented by Dr Abdullahi Kafin Soli, said he would continue to support and assist the institution by providing shelter to staff and students.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Arma Ya’u Hamisu Bichi said the center which was established 7 years back with 100 students now upgrade to a college with over 7,000 students and 34 study centers.
He also commended the effort of federal and katsina State governments, Tedfund, NUC, university community and the management team of the university for timely support to the institution and approval of various courses.
The VC also urged the matriculating students to avoid cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice among others and at the same time adhere to the institutions guidelines as the university is dedicate towards providing the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful graduation.
In his vote of thanks, the Acting Provost of the College Dr Jamilu Ajiya commended the effort of the vice chancellor , his management team for making the center a reality today.
He also called on parents to support their children to acquire education at all levels and urged students to become good ambassadors of the college and the university at large.
