The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC in Zamfara State has arrested a suspect in possession of large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis (hemp) in Shinkafi Local government area of Zamfara State.

The Commandant of the Corps, Mr Sani Mustapha announced this while parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters in Gusau.

Mr Mustapha said the suspect by name Kasimu Abubakar aged 40 was arrested on Thursday, 6th February, 2025 at Shinkafi local government area of the state.

He pointed out that, during the preliminary investigation, Kasimu Abubakar had confessed and confirmed that he was in possession of
70 packs concealed in the parcel acquired for the sum of over one million naira.

“Each pack cost 15,000.00, To be sold for 25,000.00 per pack, Totalling 1,750,000.00 yielding an interest of 700,000.00”

Mr Sani Mustapha further revealed that, the suspect intention was to deliver the cannabis to a bandit group at Mashema village in Zurmi Local government and he offered a bribe of one million naira to Shinkafi Divisional Corps Office in order to dismiss the case which was utterly rejected.

According to Sani Mustapha, Investigation carried out further revealed two accomplices by name Zayyanu and Ashiru that were at large.

In fairness, transparency and collaboration with sister agencies, the state commandant has directed the immediate handover to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further necessary investigation and prosecution.

The command has zero tolerance to corruption and criminality; any suspect apprehended shall face prudent investigation and upon completion, arraigned to a competent court of law for prosecution.
