President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has increased the 2025 budget proposal from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion, while the National Assembly is working to ensure its passage before the end of the month.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the budget increase through separate letters sent by President Tinubu to both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In the letter read during the plenary, Senator Godswill Akpabio said the increase resulted from additional revenues of N1.4 trillion generated by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), N1.2 trillion by the Nigeria Customs Service, and N1.8 trillion by other government-owned agencies.

The President of the Senate subsequently referred the request to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for swift consideration, affirming that the budget review would be finalized and passed before the end of the month.
