Jigawa State ACRESAL Project has begun compensating residents of Danmasara, Kargo, and Yalwawa quarters affected by the proposed ACRESAL erosion control project.
The compensation, worth over ₦187 million, covers land, farms, houses, and other related properties.
Chairman of the State ACRESAL Steering Committee and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Namadi, disclosed this during the formal disbursement exercise held at the JARDA Secretariat Complex in Dutse.
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Namadi urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely.
Earlier in his address, the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Uba Kafingana, said that justice and equity have been ensured in the payment to the affected beneficiaries.
Also speaking, the Safety and Livelihood Officer of the project, Hajiya Zainab Baba Santali, revealed that 481 individuals from Kargo and Danmasara Quarters will receive compensation.
Zainab Baba Santali, pointed out that, 360 vulnerables and physically challenged persons were given 3 goats and one hundred thousand naira cash gift ahead of the commencement of the project approved by the World Bank-Assisted ACRESALA Project.
