Senate Committee on Labour, Productivity and Employment has assured its readiness to collaboration with the ministry of labour to reduce the unemployment rate in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Diket plang gave the assurance during a budget defence of the Ministry.
He said together all the discrepancies would be manage for the betterment of Nigerians.
Some Senators raised the issue of captioning the capital project in the ministry’s submission to look like more of recurrent expenditure not capital,
As such the chairman of the committee believed that such issues will be iron out in the executive session but the concern of the majority senators was that the allocation is inadequate.
The Senate Committee on Labour, Productivity, and Employment has assured its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Labour to reduce Nigeria’s unemployment rate.
The committee chairman, Senator Diket Plang, gave this assurance during the ministry’s budget defense session.
He stated that all discrepancies would be managed collectively for the betterment of Nigerians.
Some senators, however, raised concerns about the classification of capital projects in the ministry’s budget submission, noting that they appeared more like recurrent expenditures rather than capital.
In response, the Committee Chairman assured that such issues would be resolved during the executive session, and that the prevailing concern among senators was the inadequacy of the ministry’s budget allocation.
They argued that going by the details of the submission and the need to reduce unemployment and restiveness in the country they realised that the allocation is not enough to achieve such critical needs of the coubtry
He assured the committee’s commitments to find a way that make the submission useful to Nigerians and if possible review the provision upward.
Presenting the 2025 proposal before the committee, prior to moving into a closed session, the Minister, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, stated that based on the envelope system allocated to the ministry and its parastatals, legislative intervention is needed to achieve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on employment and job creation in the country.
The minister, therefore, presented a budget proposal for the year amounting to over 46.79 billion naira for the ministry.
