In a statement by the Zamfara State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Haliru Andi says there is no doubt that Governor Lawal has promise to end banditry within a month in the state and that was indeed his ambitious.
According to the statement, It was an ambitious promised that requires the support of all and unhindered participation of the Nigerian security forces under the federal government to actualize it.
While his commitment to fighting insecurity is commendable and it’s essential to acknowledge the complexity of the issue.
The statement says as Governor Lawal himself mentioned in an interview, sustaining military pressure is crucial to combating banditry and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state and federal governments to achieve the goal.
It argues that, Governor Lawal has taken steps to address the issue of insecurity, such as tirelessly soliciting federal government’s support, sustained all forms of support to all security agencies in the state, establishment of community protection guard (CPG), visiting and assisting communities affected by banditry, continuous fight against the bandits, and continuously reaffirming his commitment to ending insecurity.
The PDP emphasizes that , ending banditry in Zamfara State will require a multifaceted approach that involves both military action and to addressing the root causes of the issue, such as poverty and unemployment.
While Governor Dauda Lawal has also refused any form of negotiation with the bandits and enjoying the support of the military to fight the bandits to a standstill.
the Zamfara state chapter of the APC is sabotaging the combined effort of the state government and the military by opting for negotiation with the bandits.
