The National Assembly has commended the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji, for surpassing the 2024 revenue collection target of N19.4 trillion by achieving N21.6 trillion.

The lawmakers made this commendation during the 2025 budget defense session for agencies under the Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

Impressed by the performance, the National Assembly, through its Joint Committee on Finance, proposed a N25 trillion tax collection target for FIRS in the 2025 fiscal year.

The first to commend the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) after its presentation on the agency’s 2024 revenue collection performance and 2025 projections was the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Saidu Musa Abdullahi, who described the performance as unprecedented.

Also praising FIRS for exceeding the projected tax revenue in 2024, Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas remarked that taxes are the global norm, emphasizing the need for FIRS to strengthen its processes through planned reforms.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, urged FIRS to aim for the N25 trillion revenue target set for 2025, stating, “It is achievable and even surpassable.”
