The 8 Division Nigerian Army in Sokoto have embarked on a Medical outreach as part of a long week Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance day held in Dange Shuni Local Government Area of the State .


Sokoto, in continuation of activities to mark this year Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, on Monday offered free medical service to not less than 5,000 persons in Gidan Gabas, Dange/Shuni local government of Sokoto state.

Speaking at the centre of the exercise, the General Officer Commanding the  Division and Commander Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunke Ajose, said the free Medical outreach was aimed at promoting army public relationship for socio-security and economic development of the country.

General Ajose, who was represented by the Commander 8 Division, 78 Brigade Supply and Transport, Brig. General Ogbonnaya Igwe, said “the move is also part of the  Nigerian Army tradition which centred at delivering its social responsibilities to the host Community .

On his part, the Commandant of 8 Division Medical Hospital and Services, Brig. General Austin Okafor, said the exercise which targets five thousand  beneficiaries  covered testing and treatment of malaria, hypertension, visual and eye treatment, provision of eye glasses as well as dental services, diabetes screening and pediatric services.

Brig. General Okafor said the explained that any major medical case that could not be handled would be referred to Army Hospital at Giginya Barrack, Sokoto, for proper attention and treatment.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Abubakar Maradun, commended the Nigerian Army stressing that the intervention will greatly promote the health status of the community in the area.

Abubakar appealed to the army to extend same to other communities and made it a continuous exercise in the state.

He also implored the people to pray for the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede and entire Nigerian Army for spiritual and material enablement to carry out their responsibilities to the nation.
