The Nigerian Armed Forces have stated that the recent airstrikes on Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages in Silame LGA, Sokoto State, were deliberate and targeted operations aimed at dismantling Lakurawa enclaves in the area.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, made this clarification in Sokoto during a Christmas lunch with troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, an event designed to boost the morale of the soldiers.

According to him, the targets were positively identified as being associated with the Lakurawa group, which justified the military action.

General Christopher Musa said concerns raised by the general public necessitated clarification, emphasizing that all military operations are conducted based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions.

The Chief of Defence Staff also allayed fears, stating that Nigeria will not allow its borders to be used as a base for attacks on any neighboring country.

He dismissed baseless claims by some online publications alleging that Nigeria would permit foreign forces to use its territory to attack neighboring countries.

The Chief of Defence Staff further noted that the coming year presents the armed forces with an opportunity to make significant progress in addressing the challenges facing the nation.
