Two military personnel have reportedly been shot by bandits at a military base in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday during a gun duel in Tegina.

Similarly, one of the suspected bandits, alleged to be their leader, was killed during the attack on the military base in Tegina.

It was reliably gathered that the criminals were allegedly crossing towards Mashegu and Wushishi Local Government Areas of the state to rustle cattle.

Chairman of Rafi Local Government Area, Alhaji Ayuba Usman Katako, confirmed this in a telephone interview in Minna,

He said the two soldiers who were shot are responding to treatment at IBB Specialized Hospital in Minna.

Ayuba Katako further explained that both the military, police and vigilantes were trying their best in ensuring safety of lives and properties of people in the state and deserved to be commended.

The Chairman who decried the continuous attacks on security personnel however, called for prayers and support from Nigerlites to overcome the menace.

All efforts to contact the military cantonment in Minna, Niger state for additional information has failed.
