Director General  National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Y. Ahmed, has urged Corps members to imbibe the spirit of keeping environment clean to ensure prevention of diseases and escalation of epidemic.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Nationwide Environmental Sanitation Exercise at Ipata market in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Director General, described the exercise as worthy cause.

Represented by the Kwara state Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, the Director General said that NYSC has a national mandate to enlighten the general public on the health risks of poor environmental hygiene.

According to him the exercise “is geared towards mobilizing and sensitizing every member of the society to cultivate the culture of keeping their environment clean in order to prevent disease out-break”.

He explained that NYSC recently held second quarter medical outreach, Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, maitaining that most of the ailments diagnosed and treated were as a result of poor hygiene.

Brigadier General Ahmed noted that efforts must be made to save many more lives by empowering the people with adequate Information on environmental hygiene.

The Director General expressed satisfaction with the turn out and response of the people towards the exercise.

He added that with regular sanitation, malaria and other related diseases would be drastically reduced to the minimum.
