House of Representatives is to invite Minister of health to brief Nigerians on the circumstances that led to the non implementation of free medical services to pregnant women during and after delivery.

The decision was sequel to a motion by a member from Bauchi State Alh Mohammed Dan Abba Shehu, adopted by the house during plenary session.

Presenting the motion Alhaji Dan Abba Shehu, explained that government allocates funds in annual budget of public healthcare institutions to fund healthcare services to the citizens’particularly pregnant women whose families cannot afford medical
treatment during pregnancy and childbirth.

The lawmaker who emphasized the importance of free healthcare policy to the Nigerian masses stressed the need for government to prioritize policy actions to allow Pregnant Women access free Medical treatment from Public Health Institution During and after Delivery.

He expressed concern that Nigeria is still grappling with high rates of diseases resulting in an annual maternal mortality of expectant mothers and children due to pregnancy complications and polio virus.

Alhaji Dan Abba Shehu, emphasized that government neglect requires public healthcare institutions to have medical professionals give adequate attention to patients, including pregnant women, during childbirth to address
complications and find permanent solutions to the menace.

While adopting the motion the house has mandated its committee on healthcare institutions to ensure compliance on the resolutions.
