CITAD Organizes Practical Workshop For Kano Youths On Poetry

 

25 youths in Kano undergo practical workshop on the fundamentals of poetry.

The 3-day training was organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in partnership with Creative Spark Foundation and Fombina Imprints.

In his welcome address, the executive director of CITAD, Engineer Yunusa Zakari  Ya’u, explained that the Centre values creativity and poetry is seen as a field where creativity can be deployed.

He explained that CITAD works to identify young people to use their voices to demand accountability, democratic reforms, and good governance, and societal demands for sustainable transformation.

Ya’u urged participants to pay attention and tap from the facilitator’s wealth of knowledge for judicious utilization and hoped that at the end of the training, beneficiaries would be able to use their skills to identify a good poem and drive for societal change.

The director International Institute of journalism (III), Abuja who doubles as the facilitator from creative sparks foundation  Dr. Emman Usman Shehu, highlighted that his passion for ensuring Northern voices are heard in the literary space of Nigeria was the Genesis behind the workshop in Kano.

He pointed out that poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities, in addition to, or lieu of its apparent meaning.

Dr. Emman maintained that for one to be a serious writer, he needs to have a notebook, be an observer, a researcher and be creative among others.

The 3 day workshop themed “Poetry Nitty-Gritty,” focus attention on the fundamentals of poetry through guidance on theoretical and practical aspects where the best poem will be published and printed by Fombina Imprints.
