Anti-Thuggery Task Force Launched in Minna to Tackle Youth Unrest

The Emir of Minna in Niger state Dr Umar Faruk Bahago has inaugurated a thirty one member anti thuggery and substance abuse committe that will neap in the bud cases of youth restiveness in the Emirate and it’s environs.

Speaking during the Inauguration in his palace, the Emir called on committee to discharge their duties diligently to restore the much needed peace that would attract foreign investment.

Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago, however, assured them of his support at all times, stating that his doors would remain open for constructive criticism and positive suggestions necessary for success.

The Emir also expressed gratitude to Allah for accepting their prayers to bring those who would help them address this problem, noting that God had brought three prominent members of his Emirate—the Jawon Minna, Alkalin Garka, and the Son Fada—to lead critical stakeholders for this laudable initiative.

Also, the Niger State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Nasiru Muazu, explained that whoever facilitates the sale of drugs or knowingly procures them shall be liable to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of not less than one hundred thousand naira.

Barrister Nasiru Muazu charged members of the committee to be firm in the discharge of their duties to bring sanity in the Emirate and it’s environs for meaningful development.

Special Adviser to the Niger state Governor on Political matters Alh Mohammed Nma Kolo said a mobile court would be created to facilitate and fastrack the work of members inview of it’s importance.

Alhaji Nma Kolo, however, stated that the whole idea started after members realized that for Governor Umar Mohammed Bago’s agenda of a new Niger to succeed, there was a need for peace, especially in the state capital. They thus swung into action, stressing that their mission for peace remains sacrosanct.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee Captain Umar Sanda who warned against favouritism and politicisation of their work, called for support and cooperation by all and sundry to achieve the desired objective.

Umar Sanda added that any person or group found to have been involved in the act no matter how highly placed would be summarily dealt with and called for useful information from members of public to ease their work.
