Eyes Insightful To Diagnosis, Examination Of Several Ailments – Experts

Doctors in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), have described eyes, as the window where some medical disorders are examined and diagnosed.

Doctors Zayyad Farouq and Maryam Idris Abdullahi, of Opthalmology Department AKTH, made the indication, during the bi -weekly clinical presentation.

This was contained in a statement, signed by the Deputy Director Information and Public Relations Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Hauwa Muhammad Abdullahi, and made available to Radio Nigeria in Kano.

The statement hinted that, Dr. Zayyad explained that, a number of patients with diabetes or hypertension, were diagnosed from opthalmology department, when the problem started to manifest in the eyes, as well as renal failure and heamatological disorders.

He emphasize that, the eye is a window through which other parts of the body can be examined.

On her part Dr Maryam Idris Abdullahi spoke, on the use of by-focal glasses especially by elderly people ,which she said should be discouraged.

While demonstrating the right ways of handling medicated glasses, to avoid scratching, she advised patients to always accept and compromise in the quality, and flexibility of vision offered at different distance.

In his remarks, Head of Opthalmology Department AKTH, Dr Sadiq Hassan urged people especially those requiring reading glass, to always come to the hospital for professional diagnosis.

He explained that, it is wrong for people, to purchase reading glass directly from the market or vendors.

Dr Sadiq, further advised both elderly and young people, to always take proactive measures while handling eye problems, to avoid irreversible damage.
