Reps To Screen Service Chiefs Monday

House of Representatives is to screen the newly appointed Service Chiefs tomorrow Monday at the National Assembly complex Abuja.

The screening is part of the criteria for final confirmation of the appointees which will be conducted by an Ad-hoc Committee constituted by the Speaker Dr Abbas Tajuddeen.

Announcing the composition of the committee, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, said all the eight principal officers of the House from the majority and minority parties would be part of the ad-hoc committee.

The panel, headed by the Chairman House Committee on Defence in the 9th House, Mr. Babajimi Benson, while the House Majority Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, his Deputy Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, the Chief Whip Alh Bello Usman Kumo and his Deputy Mrs Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga to serve as members.

Other members of the committee includes the House Minority Kingsley Chinda, Deputy Minority Leader Alh Aliyu Sani Madaki, Ali Isa, Minority Whip; and Deputy Minority Whip Mr George Ozodinobi.

The appointees billed for screening are Chief of Defence Staff Maj. Gen. C.G Musa, Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. T. A. Lagbaja, Chief of Naval staff Rear Admiral E. A. Ogalla, and Chief of Air Staff, Vice Marshal H.B. Abubakar.

Recalled that on 19th June, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved the immediate retirement of former Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service and that of the Nigeria Immigration Service and appointed their successors.

Subsequently, the President on 5th July, 2023 in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker House of Representatives Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, requesting the screening and confirmation of the appointees.
