ECOWAS: Speaker Abbas Congratulates Tinubu On Emergence As Chairman

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, has described the emergence of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu ECOWAS Chairman
as an affirmation of his popularity beyond Nigeria among his colleagues in West Africa.

In a congratulatory message to the Nigerian President, the Speaker expressed confidence that Tinubu would deploy his wealth of experience in public administration in spearheading sustainable socio-economic plans for the African sub-region.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, unanimously endorsed at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in Guinea Bissau, is expected to join hands with other ECOWAS leaders to turn things around in the sub-regional body.

Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, maintained that it’s no doubts that African sub-region would witness exemplary leadership under Nigerian leader as ECOWAS chairman.”

After receiving handover documents from the outgoing Chairman and President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Embaló, the new ECOWAS Chairman said he would take democracy seriously as the form of government.

The immediate past Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, had occupied the position from 2018 to 2019.

The ECOWAS chairmanship is a position held by one of the heads of states or governments of the member countries, chosen on a rotating basis for one-year tenure.
