NEMA Distributes Relief Items To Victims Of Boat Mishap In Kwara

The National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) has distributed relief items to victims of the unfortunate Boat mishap in Patigi local government area of Kwara state.

Performing the official hand over and distribution of the items, the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said the items would be distributed to the deceased families and those alive.

He said the agency had conducted an assessment of the situation in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directives before arriving at the items procured .

Alhaji Mustapha commended the efforts of corporate organizations and other individuals for their support to the victims.

He urged the residents of the area to adhere to safety codes at all time to save lives.

The NEMA Director General appealed to relevant authorities responsible for safety on waterways to put measures in place to forestall reoccurrence of the incident.

In his address the deputy governor of Kwara state, Mr Kayode Alabi commended the National Emergency Management Agency for supporting the state at all time.

Items distributed include, 1000 bags of rice , 1000 bags of maize, 1000 bags of beans and 50 kegs of vegetable oil among others.

At least 106 persons, mostly from Patigi communities, have been confirmed dead while 144 survived the accident.
