Anthrax Disease: KWSG Tasks Livestock Farmers On Vigilance

Kwara State Government says it has put in place measures to prevent the spread of anthrax disease from neighbouring west African countries into the state.

In a statement , the Director Finance and Supply of the state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulwahab advised livestock farmers to be vigilant and report any unusual happenings, such as sickness or sudden death of animals in their farms.

According to the statement , anthrax is a bacteria disease that affects both animals and human beings which has claimed some lives in the neighbouring countries.

The statement explained that individuals can be infected if the person comes in contact with infected animal or a contaminated animal products such as meat, hide and skin.

The statement said some of the symptoms of the disease include staggering, dyspnea, trembling, sudden collapse and convulsive movement of animals as well as bloody discharge from the natural openings.

The statement urged livestock owners to ensure annual vaccination of their animals with anthrax spore vaccines made available at designated Veterinary Hospital in the state.
