The Inspector General of Police IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the sealing of all the Seventeenth Local Government Council Secretariats in Plateau State.

Briefing Journalists at the Plateau State Police Command headquarters in Jos, the State Capital, the Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka said they have acted on the IGP’s directive in the interest of peace in the State.

Onyeka said this has become necessary as a result of tensions around the leadership of the Local Government Areas, and the possible threat that supporters and Local Government Chairmen are posing to critical infrastructure, lives and properties in the State.

He further stated that the decision to take this action was in accordance with the constitutional responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure that the above doesn’t hold sway on the Plateau.

The Command therefore warned that it would not take it lightly with anyone who tries to disrupt the process or causes any confusion around the Local Government Council Secretariats, as they would ensure that the law takes it’s full course on such persons.

The CP commended the citizens of Plateau State for their continued understanding and urging everyone to go about their lawful businesses in the state.

It could be recalled that tension was raised as the newly inaugurated Transition Committee Chairmen appointed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the state attempted to resume office while the dissolved local government Chairmen are still claiming to be in charge of the offices which resulted into clashes by their supporters in some local government areas.
