Speakership: Reps Adopt Open Voting, Begin Election

Election for the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives into the tenth Assembly has commenced following the formal nomination of candidates by members elect.

Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, the APC consensus candidate from Kaduna State, former Deputy Speaker Alh Ahmad Idris Wase, from Plateau State and Alh Aminu Sani Jaji from Zamfara State are the only candidates contesting for the seat.

Following the decision of some speakership candidates to step down from the race former Deputy Speaker Alh Ahmad Idris Wase from Plateau State Dr Abbas Tajuddeen the APC consensus candidate from Kaduna State and Alh Aminu Sani Jaji from Zamfara State were only nominated for the contest.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, from Kano State nominated Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, Mr Nnaji Nnoli, from Enugu seconded Tijjani Kayode from Kwara State nominated Alh Ahmed Idris Wase, Muhammad Ari from Nasarawa State seconded while Ahmed Yusuf from Katsina nominated and Muhammad Ibrahim also from Katsina seconded.

The election process is being conducted smoothly using the voice vote process were a member will stand up and announce the candidate of his choice publicly.
