26-Year-Old Rukayat, Wins Kwara State Assembly Seat

The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Rukayat Shittu, has been declared winner of the Kwara State House of Assembly election, in the Saturday, 18th March, 2023, election.

Rukayat Shittu, who is 26 years old, represents the Owode/Onire Constituency in the Asa Local Government Area, in Kwara State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC returning officer, Professor Akeem Olasunkanmi Ijaiya, said Shittu pulled 7,521 votes, to defeat her closest rival, Abdullah Magaji of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 6,957 votes during the elections.

Ijaiya in his word; “Having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, she is hereby declared the winner of the election”.

This makes her the youngest lawmaker in the state and in the country to clinch the House of Assembly seat.
