Kano State : Effluent Discharge Treatment Plants Construction Near Completion

Permanent Secretary , Ecological Project Office Malam Shehu Ibrahim says the ongoing construction of effluent discharge treatment plants at major industrial sites in Kano have reached near completion.

Malam Shehu Ibrahim stated this when he led the management team on an inspection tour to the sites of the ongoing projects in Kano.

He said the contract was awarded in 2019, with the sole aim of addressing environmental hazards in major industrial sites of sharada, Bompai and Challawa.

Malam Shehu Ibrahim explained that challenges like covid 19, legal issue and other challenges which were not envisaged earlier delayed the speed of the project , stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari had already considered the second phase of the project so that the objectives of the project would be achieved.

“This is a project that is you don’t complete the second phase, the first one will be like nothing has been done, is in the second phase that all this machines will be mounted ,everything will be channeled and we will be able to achieved what the project is being meant for”

The permanent secretary noted that before the commencement of the project, there were several complaints from the Kano Emirate and people living in the affected areas, urging the Federal government through the Ecological Project Office to intervene.

Other areas inspected by the team included erosion flood works at Tudun Murtala Grave yard, erosion control works at Ladanai , Nasarawa local government area , reconstruction of Plankawa Dam Ajing Dam and reclaiming of Kwargam pond in Daura, Katsina State.

Speaking on the impact of the projects , residents of the affected areas applauded the foresight and commitment of the Federal government.
