Niger Gov, Flags Off Construction of 160 HYPPADEC Housing Scheme

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has flagged off the construction of one hundred and sixty Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC resettlement housing scheme for victims of flooding in Muregi and Ketso communities of Mokwa local government council.

Flagging off the exercise at Muregi the Governor maintained that efforts like this would no doubt guarantee the safety o be fvf lives and properties of affected persons and ameliorate their hardship.

Alh Abubakar Sani Bello expressed hope that the project will be completed on schedule to enable the victims return immediately.

He said Niger will collaborate with HYPPADEC to construct access road in the area after the project is completed towards boosting farming activities for economic emancipation.

Managing Director HYPPADEC Alh Abubakar Sadik Yelwa said the choice of Muregi and Ketso for the construction of one hundred and sixty two bedroom housing units this year to be shared amongst them was predicated on the fact these were communities that have been frequently affected by flood since twenty fifteen.

He said the two bedroom housing units estimated at over four point eight million naira which will consist of one sitting toilet a kitchen and one veranda which will occupy half of the plot size allocation to it while the remaining half will be left for future expansion.

Alh Abubakar Sadik Yelwa further said the housing unit is expected to be occupied only by persons that that have been facing intermittent displacement as a result of flood and other ecological disasters.

Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger state Council of Traditional Rulers Alh Yahaya Abubakar thanked both the HYPPADEC and Niger state government for working in synergy to improve the lots of his subjects and called for the setting up of a committee to take care of resettlement of victims.

Chairman Mokwa local government council Alh Abdullahi Jibrin Muregi pledged to contribute his quota to the success of the project.
