Inferno-Kurmi Market Traders Appeal For Government Assistance

Traders at Kurmi market Kano, have appealed to Government, Philanthropists and Wealthy Individuals to assist them, following a Fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Traders made the appeal while receiving Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Top Government Officials at the Market.

Speaking on behalf of those affected, Alhaji Haladu Sulaiman Mai Citta and Alhaji Ya’u Adamu Ibrahim explained that,the Inferno razed over 80 Shops, Containing Perfumes, Ginger and Plastic bags.

They highlighted that, Properties Worth Millions of Naira were Completely Destroyed during the unfortunate Incident.

They attributed the Incidence to Electricity Fault,Saying that over 2,500 Youths were affected as they depend on the Business for Survival.

Also speaking, the Chairman Kurmi Market Traders Association, Alhaji Ya’u Idris Karas Commended Kano State Fire Service, Nigerian Police Force, and all relevant Stakeholders for their Prompt action in quenching the Fire, and Ensuring Security of Lives and Properties.

In a remark, Executive Secretary,Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Saleh Aliyu Jili reaffirmed the State Government’s Commitment, in the Continue Support of Commercial activities to International Standards in the State.

He stressed that, they were at the Market, to Condole Traders and Compile a Comprehensive report of damages, for necessary Action.

He appealed to the Traders to remain Calm, as the government would do everything Possible to alleviate their Suffering .

Radio Nigeria reports that, Kurmi Market located in the ancient city of Kano, Serves as the Sanctuary for Kano Cultural Heritages, where hand-made Products with Traditional and Historical attachments were sold.
