Ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections tomorrow, the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has launched the 2023 Human Rights Situation room to monitor the activities of law enforcement agencies as well as monitor the violation of human rights during election.

At the launch of the situation room in Abuja on Friday, the Executive Secretary, NHRC, Chief Tony Ojukwu, said the situation room which would work for 24 hours through out the election period would provide the citizens with the opportunity to report any incident of human rights violation during the elections.

Chief Ojukwu explained that the situation room was to ensure compliance by security agents in protecting voters without intimidation or harassment during election.

The Commission also launched guidelines on the role of the Law enforcement and security agencies in the protection of Voters’ Access and Participation at elections.

According to Chief Tony Ojukwu, the guidelines was to ensure that security agencies are accountable in the discharge of their mandates during elections.

The Executive Secretary of the NHRC said the commission was putting everything in place to ensure that Nigerians can have confidence in the nation’s democratic system.
