Kano state government has reiterated it’s commitment to ensuring quality Healthcare delivery, and Mitigating Problems bedevilling Mental Health.

The Special Adviser to Kano State Governor on Health Matters, Dr. Fauziyya Idris Buba made the indication, during a one day Sensitization Meeting, with Heads of social homes and rehabilitation centers in the state.

Dr. Fauziyya, who doubles as Chairperson Kano State Mental Health Committee, and Head of Female Anti- Drug Ambassadors Committee, said the meeting was organized to discuss on how to ameliorate Mental Health Issues, and Drug Abuse in Social Homes and Rehabilitation Centers.

She Highlighted that, the in charge would be given opportunities to Provide insights into the Mental Health Issues of Children and Adults under their care,and prepare a Comprehensive report for onward Submission to the Governor for necessary action.

The Special Adviser, Maintained that Mental disorder as one of the neglected part of Health related issues, as most people do not accord much priority to it and often stigmatize those affected.

In his welcome address,Director Planning Research and Statistics office of the Special Adviser to Kano state governor on Health Matters,Malam Aminu Jibril explained that, the office is committed to Partnering with relevant Stakeholders in improving Health Care services, and Mental Health as well as control of drug abuse among youths.

He stressed that, the communique would be issued at the end of the meeting reflecting inputs during the plenary discussion.

In a remark, Head of V.V.F Rehabilitation center Kwalli, Malama Hauwa Bello Umar identified,stigma, depression, broken Homes as some of the challenges faced by patients.

Speaking on the process of rehabilitating drug addicts,in charge of Kano reformatory institute Kiru, Muhammad Hashim said the center had reformed hundreds of drug addicts with 38 currently enrolled.

He noted that,the drug dependent youths undergo psychiatric rehabilitation and enterepreneurship training, to make them self reliant.

Also speaking, the officer over seeing Nasarawa children’s home, Hajiya Aishatu Sani Kurawa noted that, the orphanage contains lost and found, children of accident victims and sick mother’s as well as those brought by Naptip, Hisbah,and CID for safe keeping.

Others who spoke during the meeting include, Representatives from Torrey home for Handicapped, Remand home, and old people’s home Shahuci.
