The Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri Professor Aliyu Shugaba has challenged academics and researchers to come up with robust innovation and strategies that will address the nation’s emerging challenges.

Professor Shugaba threw the challenge at the first international conference of the Faculty of Management Sciences University of Maiduguri held at Mohammadu Indimi International Conference Centre of the institution.

This is the first International Conference to be organised by University of Maiduguri after thirteen years of Boko Haram insurgency.

About eighty scholars and academics from Universities within and outside the country would be participating in the Conference.

The Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri Professor Aliyu Shugaba noted that the mandate of Universities all over the world are learning, research and innovation and community service.

He reiterated his commitment to reposition the institution to play important role to tackle local, national and international challenges in order to transform the society.

Professor Shugaba assured that the University will continue to encourage staff to acquire new knowledge, skills and ideas that will inspire them to solve emerging issues affecting the region and the entire country.

“This is about revolutionising management skills, the world is changing, changing rapidly for that matter. In a dynamic system like this, we need to also be thinking outside the box and be able to give the whole world what it wants in terms of suggestions, in terms of how best we can move things forward” Shugaba said.

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum represented by the acting Head of Service Malam Fannami observed that the theme of the conference is apt, as it is coming at a time when his administration is resettling communities displaced by insurgents, restoring institutions and reclaiming its cherished values.

According to the Governor, the entrenchment of proper management skills and capability building is central for the economic advancement of any society.

Vice Chancellor Borno state University Professor Umar Sandabe who is the keynote speaker identified corruption, technology and and decision making process as factors retarding quality leadership.

He expressed confidence that the conference will come up with workable solutions that address management and leadership challenges.

Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that the three-day conference has as its theme “Revolutionising Management Skills for Economic Advancement and Capacity Building in a Challenging Environment.
