FG Secures 3000 Conviction Cases, Others

Federal Government has secured a total of 3,000 convictions on terrorism and corruption cases.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, stated this at the 18th edition of the PMB Administration Scorecard series 2015-2023.

The 18th edition of the Scorecard series focused on the strides made by the Federal Ministry of Justice and its Parastatals under President Muhammadu Buhari led administration in the areas of law reforms, administration of justice, anti-corruption efforts and promotion of rule of law.

Presenting the Scorecard, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said the Federal Government has prosecuted a total of 7000 cases on various offences including Cyber Crime, Kidnapping and Anti-corruption.

Malami noted that the Federal government had executed over 350 Mutual Legal Assistance on Extradition requests and over 50 Extradition requests from Turkey, and USA on drug trafficking and other crimes had been successfully treated.

In line with the cardinal principle of the present Administration in the fight against corruption, over 1 billion naira had been generated from forfeited properties.

According to the Minister, 6 million pounds, 5 million Euros and 390,000 dollars had been recovered from various jurisdictions from 2021 to date.

Malami said the recovered funds were used in the financing of critical infrastructures including Abuja–Kano Expressway, Second Niger Bridge, and Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Also, Mr Malami said some of the critical bills developed by the Federal government through the ministry in the period under review include, Nigeria Correctional Service Act, 2019, Money laundering prevention and Prohibition act 2022, terrorism prevention and Prohibition act 2022 as well as the electoral act 2022.

The Attorney-General of the Federation maintained that over 10,000 inmates had been released through the Presidential Committee on Correctional Reforms and Decongestion.

He also said in his efforts to reform the judiciary, the President approved the increment of salaries and allowances of judicial officers amongst other incentives.
