Social media influencers in kano have been charged to shun all acts of circulating fake news and hate speech on social media, especially at this time that the general elections are approaching.

The commissioner of police in Kano Mamman Dauda disclosed this during a summit on combating hate speech and fake news during the 2023 elections in Kano organized by Aminu Magashi Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force Kano Command, held at Lebanon club Kano.

He said youths are the engine room of development in any society hence the need for adequate training on social media influencers on the effect of circulating fake news and hate speech on social, geared toward having violence-free elections.

“If youths want to develop the nation, they can do so, and if they want to destroy the nation they can also do so, as such there was the need to enlighten them on the effects of fake news “

In a remark, the Founder of the Aminu Magashi Foundation Dr. Aminu Magashi said the objectives of the summit were to curtail the menace of circulating fake news and hate speech on social media.

He advised the participants to use the opportunity in building their capacity on how to make adequate utilization of the social media, aimed at addressing the abuse of social media.

Earlier, the representative of the Resident electoral officer Kano Suleiman Alkali said the summit was very timely.

“We are disturbed with how people are circulating fake news on the social hence adequate measure needed to be implored In addressing circulating fake news and hate speech on social media.

The summit was attended by social media influencers and other stakeholders.
