Centre, NDE Trains Senior Citizens On Self Reliance

National Senior Citizens Centre has reassured of its determination in training senior citizens on self-reliance traits and skills so that they can contribute their quota to the development of the nation’s economy.

The Co-chair of the National Senior Citizens Stakeholders Consultative Forum of the Aging Kano state Chapter Haiiya Rabi Yusif Gezawa , stated this during a one-day training organized for the aging selected from the three senatorial zones of the state held at the National Directorate of Employment, Kano Office.

She said the training aimed to build the capacity of the older persons who were engaged in indigenous crafts of different categories in their localities so that they can become self-reliant.

Haijya Rabi Yusif Gezawa noted that the training was in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment, stressing that soft loans will be offered to the trainees geared towards boosting their morale and for their businesses to grow.

“you know poverty is on the increase on daily basis, that’s why the center took the bold step in making the senior citizens become self -reliance and cater to their needs “

She said older persons were selected from the three senatorial zones and six local government areas that had earlier been identified by the Centre.

Rabi Yisif Gezawa added that older persons selected include those who were into tie and dye, weaving, hides and slkin, and making of traditional mats and poultry among others.

Earlier, the state Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment Kano office Malam Inuwa Abdullahi said the training would play a vital role in addressing the menace of unemployment among senior citizens.

Certificates of attendance were presented to the participants at the end of the training.
