Zamfara Police Arrests 10 Bandits, Repels Attack

Zamfara State Police Command has again arrested ten Suspects for banditry related cases, and recovered two AK 47 rifles, large quantity of dried leaf likely to be Indian hemp and 104 round of live ammunition.

The Public Relations Officer SP Muhammad Shehu made this known during briefing at the Command in Gusau the state capital.

On 5th December 2022, Police Tactical operatives while on confidence-building patrol along Zurmi and Shinkafi LGAs received a distress call about bandits plan to attack some villages of the two local government areas“.

The Police operatives mobilized to the locations and engaged the bandits in a serious gun battle that lasted for hours which forced the bandits to retreat to the forest with possible gunshot wounds”, he explained.

SP Shehu further explained that, the command also arrested two suspected bandits collaborators that specialised in applying hard drugs and dried leafs suspected to be Indian hemp to bandits.

According to him, the suspect are
Murtala Dahiru aged 25 years old of Galadi village in Shinkafi local government area and Sani Mohammed aged 39 years old of Talata Mafara local government area of the state.

He added that, the suspects were arrested while transporting large quantity of dried leaf suspected to be Indian hemp all the way from Lagos to Shinkafi in Zamfara state.

In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to several supply of hard drugs and other substances to the bandits operating at Shinkafi and Zurmi axis, investigation is ongoing, and when completed the suspects would be charge to court” the PPRO confirmed

Radio Nigeria reports that the command also arrested two informants who collaborate with bandits to impose levies on villagers and deliver them to bandits and one other person who divulge information on the operational activities of security agencies and vigilantes.
