Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has presented a budget proposal of One Hundred and Seventy-Two Billion, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Four Million, Five Hundred and Thirty-Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty Nine Naira to the State House of Assembly.

The 2023 appropriation bill is tagged “Budget of Fulfilment of the Rescue Mission Transmission” has an increase of 15.32% over the current budget.

Governor Ishaku told members of the house, that the 2022 budget performance failed short of expectations due to certain unforeseen circumstances that affected governance, such as the devastating effects of the flood and insecurity.

He explained that the budget was prepared at a very critical period in view of political a transition and in consideration of the devastating effects of the flood, insecurity, and other challenges.

Governor Darius Ishaku who attributed the successes of his administration to the collaboration and cordial working relationship with the legislative arm, said he did not take for granted their enormous help to the present government.

According to him, the budget is premised on global economic indicators, and domestic realities, noting that its significance is to further consolidate the achievements recorded and provide a robust take-off for the next administration.

The budget comprised N74,556,829,088 representing 43.16% as the proposal for recurrent expenditure and N98,177,708,371 representing 56.8% for capital expenditure.

The Speaker of the house, Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini earlier noted that this was the seventh budget presented by Governor Ishaku since he was first sworn in as the democratically elected governor of the State on 29th May 2015.

“This budget presentation is, therefore, the last since the tenure of this Administration will end on 29th May 2023,” Kunini added.

According to the speaker, the administration of Governor Darius Ishaku witnessed an unprecedented level
of development in the State in all ramifications.

He revealed that a total of 176 bills and executive orders were processed by the house of assembly for the governor’s assent which, he said became a record-breaking history since the creation of the state.
