The Federal government in partnership with United Nations Children Fund UNICEF have presented the 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey MICS and National Immunisation Coverage Survey to stakeholders in Maiduguri.
The Survey is used as a tool to assess the situation of children and women in the areas of health, education and children protection.
Presenting the key findings, Borno state Officer National Bureau of Statistics NBS Mr. Shuaibu Hamidu said the household survey sampled men and women between fifteen and forty nine years, and children under five years to improve the wellbeing of the targeted groups.
According to him, Borno state has recorded improvement in areas of immunisation coverage, school enrolment, antenatal services and children under five health conditions.
“the Multiple Indicator survey was carried out in 2021 to assess the the level of education, healthcare of men, women and children as well as immunisation coverage of children under five recorded significant improvement for Borno state despite the insecurity ” Malam Shuaibu said.
Acting Head of Office UNICEF North East, Dr. Clement Adams said the survey is conducted every five years to generate data in areas of water sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, child protection so as to effectively plan in areas of challenges.
He explained that stakeholders at the meeting will also assess gaps identified in the survey and develop plans to improve the situation.
Dr. Adams observed that there have been improvement in service delivery across all the Indicators, assuring that UNICEF will continue to support government at different levels to realise their goals.
