National Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria has warned the Federal Government against plans to privatize health institutions due to its importance to Nigerians.
National President of the Union, Comrade Biobelemoye Joy Josiah gave the warning during the North West Zonal meeting of the union held in Kaduna.
Represented by the Deputy National President, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, Comrade Biobelemoye Joy Josiah argued that privatizing such institutions would make accessing health facilities to difficult for the average Nigerian.
In his remark, National Vice President North West Zone, Comrade Hussaini Hamisu explained that the aim of the meeting is to brainstorm on the challenges affecting the zone and how to address them.
He lamented that the zone is faced with various challenges such as kidnapping, arm banditry, cattle rustling and serious economic hardship and called on government to resolve them.
In his welcome address, Kaduna state Chairman of the Union Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleman it has successfully secured more than three hundred and fifty housing units for its members through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
He said the union also obtained four hundred and fifty seven million naira through Cooperative Housing Development Loan from Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria to build housing units for his members.
Comrade Ayuba highlighted some of the challenges of the union to include the payment of minimum wage without consequential adjustment at the local government level and battered industrial relationship with the State Government among others.
