It is no longer news that communities across the twelve wards of Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state have over the years suffered acute shortage of water supply, especially during the dry seasons, making them depend solely on unhygienic sources mostly from streams which are several kilometers away from their ancestral communities.
However, as part of effort to address the perennial water scarcity in the area, the council has secured the intervention of an organization, to drill boreholes in some selected communities.
Managing Director of the organization Mr. Bashir Ibrahim said during a courtesy visit to the local Government Secretariat in Kafanchan that, the intervention followed the need to complement government effort in the provision of clean drinking water to the rural communities in dire need.
Represented by the Head of Procurement Mr.John Sunday, Bashir Ibrahim expressed satisfaction, pointing out that all the selected benefitting communities are deserving of the intervention.
He requested that, both the local government and the communities should take ownership of the projects and ensure they are executed in accordance with the contract specifications as well as need assessment.
Responding, the Chairman, Jema’a local government area, Mr. Yunana Markus Barde appreciated the intervention, noting that water is critical to life.
He informed the organisation that the local government in collaboration with the Kaduna State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, RUWASA had concluded arrangements for the construction of solar powered boreholes across communities with critical need in the area.
The Chairman assured the organisation that the local government would mobilise its professional staff to ensure the projects are executed in line with the contract agreement, within the specified period.
According to the contract document, six hand boreholes and one motorised borehole would be constructed in the selected communities with execution period of three weeks.
Some of the selected communities that may benefit from the intervention are: Binzong, Low cost, Ungwar Sani, Ungwar dogon yaro, Ungwar Namba kogum, Sabon Gari Atuku, Magajiya Street in kafanchan ward B, Maigizo, and Jagindi.
