Residents of Gwarzo local government area, Kano State were thrown into deep shock and sorrow following the death of nine persons after drowning in a dam.

Narrating the incident, Public Relations Officer Kano State Fire Service PFS Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said the agency received an emergency call from a vulcanizer MalamAli Mai Faci, that a vehicle conveying passengers to Katsina had lost control and plunged into Fada Dam, Gwarzo local government area.

He explained that, a rescue team was immediately mobilized from Gwarzo fire station.

“On Saturday 19th November 2022, state fire service received an emergency call through Ali Mai Faci, at about 18:45 hrs”

On arrival, the fire fighters discovered that a Golf Wagon with unknown registration number, heading from Kano to Katsina had lost control, after one of it’s tyres busted and fell into the dam”.

The Public Relations Officer highlighted that, officials of Kano state fire service and local fisher men succeeded in retrieving twelve persons unconscious.

Saminu Yusif stressed that, all the victims were conveyed to Gwarzo General hospital, where nine were confirmed dead while three are currently receiving medical attention.

“Twelve persons of Katsina state were rescued, all with unknown names,victims involved are two girls of about 6 months,4 women and 6 men”

He pointed out that, the search party is still looking for one missing person, among the victims as eyewitness reported that, the car was conveying thirteen persons including the driver.

Radio Nigeria reports that, few weeks ago, a fire outbreak at Badume vegetable market in Bichi local government area Kano, claimed the lives of three, and razed over one hundred shops.
