PMB Reiterate Commitment To Northeast Stability, Commissions 664 Housing Units

President Muhammadu Buhari has reassured that peace will fully be restored in the North East and other regions bedevelled by insecurity before the end of his administration. 

The President gave the assurance at the inauguration of six hundred and sixty four reconstructed housing units in Ngaranam community, Mafa local government area of Borno State. 

The housing units was constructed under the instrumentality of the Regional Stabilisation Facility funded by the Federal, Borno state government in collaboration with United Nations and International Community. 

Ngaranam is one of the communities ravaged and destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents in 2015 resulting in displacement of hundreds of families who before now have been taken refuge in IDP camps.

The Ngaranam facility which is one of the nine facilities in the North East was initiated to ensure safe and dignified resettlement of displaced persons due to insurgency. 

President Muhammadu Buhari represented by his Chief of Staff Professor Ibrahim Gambari expressed commitment of the federal government to rebuild all destroyed communities and restore normalcy in the region. 

The President commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his commitment to the defence of his people who have been victims of insurgency. 

Minister of State Budget and Planning Prince Clem Agba said out of the 500 housing units, 360 have been completed including health facility, a school, police station and market.

According to him, the Federal government has contributed the sum of 1.1 million dollars for effective implementation of the project. 

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum said about one hundred and fifty thousand families have been resettled in the last one and half years. 

He explained that each household that will be resettled in Ngaranam will be supported with a grant of one hundred thousand naira, cattle and food and non-food items.

In their separate goodwill messages representatives of United Nations Development Programme, European Union and Ambassadors of Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Executive Secretary Lake Chad Basin Commission promised to upscale their support to the Regional Stabilisation Facility to ensure sustainable peace in Borno state. 

Correspondent Dauda Iliya reports that the beneficiaries were also provided with livelihood assistance to enhance their economic activities.
