Four people have been confirmed killed after heavy downpour in Ilorin, Kwara state, while property worth millions of naira were also lost to flood.

Radio Nigeria gathered that two human bodies and a Toyota Yaris car with Reg No APP544E were removed by men of the state Fire Service from a river opposite Olusola Saraki abattoir, along Sobi Road in Ilorin on Saturday.

It was learnt that two lives were also lost when youths swimming to catch fish along Asa riverine areas got drowned in their expedition.

The Head of Department (HOD), Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, and the general manager of the state environmental protection agency (KWEPA), Alhaji Saad Ayuba DanMusa, confirmed the incident.

The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, appealed to the general public to avoid driving during heavy rainfall .
