Skills Acquisition : FG Trains 42 PWDs In Kano

The federal government has reaffirmed its determination in training people living with disabilities in different skills and traits aimed at making them self-reliant.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk Stated this during the opening ceremony of a three-day capacity building workshop on income-generating activities for people living with disabilities from the Northwest Geopolitical zone held in Kano.

Faruk, represented by the Director of Special Duties in the Ministry Mrs. Nkechi Onwukwe said the entrepreneurial skills would offer new opportunities for the people living with disabilities geared toward addressing the high level of poverty.

She said providing skills acquisition training for PWDs and empowering them economically would go a long way in paving the way for unbundling their full potential.

“To achieve our goals at the end of this training which would focus on fish farming, phone repairs, cosmetic production, liquid soap, cream, and disinfectant a grant of one hundred thousand Naira would be given to each PWD participant “

She enjoined all participants to make maximum utilization of the opportunity geared towards ensuring that the objectives were actualized .

In her remark, the Kano state Commissioner for Women Affairs Dr. Zahra’u Mohammad applauded the federal government’s foresight in organizing the capacity-building training.

She noted that the training would play a vital role in addressing the menace of street begging and other related issues.

Halima Shehu, secretary of the Spinal Cord injury Association of Nigeria Kano chapter, and Binta Namadi from Zamfara state who were among the participants of the workshop, said it would go a long way in building their capacity to become self-reliant.

The workshop attracted PWDs from the seven states of the North-west Geopolitical Zone.
