Gunmen Attack Several Communities In Niger State

An unspecified number of villagers were killed and many others including a Catholic Priest abducted by terrorists at several communities of Munya local government council in Niger state.

Attacks by the terrorists took place between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning.

The Catholic Priest Reverend Father Leo Raphael Ozigi and some clergymen ran into the gunmen near a bridge while returning from Minna after Sunday service.

Investigation by Radio Nigeria revealed that the gunmen in their large numbers raided Tsohon kabula, Chibani , Injita, Gini, Jesso and Gunu carrying dangerous and sophisticated guns.

They were also said to have forced several houses open, burgled food barns and stores and carted away with several food items to unknown destination.

Secretary Munya Local Government Council Mr James Jagaba confirmed the incident and said the terrorists operated for several hours unhindered.

Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Niger state chapter, Reverend Mathias Echioda also confirmed the abduction of the Catholic Priest and others and called on all hands to be on deck to ensure that they were release unharmed.

Niger state Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security Mr Emmanuel Umar when contacted on telephone said he is attending a crucial meeting in Minna.
