The North East Development Commission NEDC says it will establish a forty-bed facility for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in each of the six states in the region.

Managing Director of the Commission Mohammed Akali stated this during the official handover of 500kva generator to Federal Pneuro Psychiatric hospital, Maiduguri.

The Managing Director represented by Director Operation of the Commission Mr. Waziri Madu remarked that the construction of rehabilitation centres became necessary following increased rate in illicit drug consumption in the region.

He also requested the Medical Director to forward the request for establishing trauma and psychosocial center for management of victims of insurgency.

“The Commission will continue to do more for the health sector in the North East including our plans in the next too distant feature to start construction of 40-bed center for the rehabilitation of drug addicts ” Alkali said.

The Managing Director of NEDC also said the 500kva genarator donated to Federal Pneuro Psychiatric hospital is in fulfilment of pledge earlier made by the Commission to enhance their operation.

The Medical Director of the institution Professor Ibrahim Wakawa said the hospital is providing services to about twenty four million people in the region.

He appealed to NEDC to set up a mental health and psychosocial center to provide support to victims of Boko Haram insurgency.

Professor Wakawa assured that the item donated will be judiciously utilised.
