Alhaji Farouk Mudi

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday confirmed Alhaji Farouk Mudi as the authentic National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

The judgement comes after AFAN sued its former National President, Arch Kabir Ibrahim, and his dissolved National Working Committee (NWC) on May 11, 2020, over their refusal to hand over the association’s assets and property.

It says in June 2019, the association was reported to have failed to convene its constitution backed general assembly to elect a new president following the expiration of Kabir Ibrahim’s tenure.

Similarly, the former chairman has been elected into office in 2014 following Article 13 of the association’s constitution, which provides a five-year single term for every elected executive member, but Alh Kabir, whose tenure expired in June 2019, was alleged to have refused to hand over power to the new excos of the association.

Reacting to the court’s judgment, a member of the association who pleaded anonymity congratulated Mudi, saying, “The court just did what many of us had always done – side with common sense and propriety.”
