Sports Key To Character, Emotional Development – NDA Commandant

Participating athletes of the first bi-annual sports competition of the Armed forces Command and Staff College have been charged to remain focused and display the principle of sportsmanship.

Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf gave the charge while declaring open, the college’s bi-annual sports week in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf who was the special guest of honour at the event explained that the competition was aimed at improving the emotional intelligence of participants and their character development.

He urged the athletes to keep in mind, the focus for which the competition was organised.

Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf commended the college for finding time to organise the competition despite the rigours of trainings in the college.

Earlier, Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal Olurotimi Anthony Tuwase explained that the bi-annual sports week is a veritable tool that the college uses to develop the physical fitness of staff and students, as well as foster cohesion among participants.

Represented by his deputy, Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan, the Commandant noted that the event was timely owing to the crucial role of sports in enhancing the physical and mental well-being of staff and students.

The Commandant charged the participants to strive for glory by all means, and use the opportunity to develop their abilities and learn something new.

Air Vice Marshal Tuwase expressed delight over the return of the games after its distruption by the covid nineteen pandemic.

A total of three hundred athletes are expected to participate in thirteen different games in the week long event.
