President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a return to the status quo in the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee (CECC) leadership tussle.

The President’s directive was stated in a letter he personally signed to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu.

President Buhari said the multiplicity of cases within the party raises the possibility of INEC invalidating the party’s activities and actions.

He said because the party could not change the leadership of the CECC without violating the time restriction given by INEC, and in light of the current uncertainties and controversies, party members should observe decorum.

He instructed the APC Governors’ Forum and their supporters to abstain from any actions or statements that would likely foster dissent within the party, jeopardizing the transition to the convention.

Additionally, President Buhari requested that the CECC, led by Mai Mala Buni, be permitted to proceed with all necessary preparations to convene the convention on the 26th of this month as planned.

The letter was also copied to Mai Mala Buni, APC Acting Chairman Governor Sani Bello, the Director-General of the DSS, as well as the Inspector General of Police.
